Maxwell Briggs

Max aims to recenter the experiences of the voiceless to the forefront of the social construct conversation. His work brings awareness to the intersectionality of social problems stemming from white supremacy and capitalism. Inspired by the history of activism within the printmaking medium, Max continues this long tradition through his use of timeless materials when disrupting the patriarchy.

Visual hallmarks of Max's work include highly expressive, rough marks denoting his objects and subjects. As well as use of ungrounded figures - the visual float - allowing his subject matter to be critically viewed as if a scientific specimen. His use of limited color palette within each piece allows the viewer to critically focus on the fronted subject, uninterrupted by distracting patterns or colors. From pieces larger than the body, to smaller than the hand, Max invites onlookers to fully engage with his pieces through sensitive themes and beautiful marksmanship.
